Doing Extra Work: Staying after practice or a game to watch film. After a long day of school and then having to go to a two-hour practice, most people want to go home and go to sleep. I love watching film so I can look back and see what I can improve and get better at.
Post a small recap of last season with personal highlights and any other big moments you have and/or memories you have from last season, whether it be a game, the bus ride to or from the game, or any other thing that sticks out.
No matter who we played, we were always viewed as the underdog, and I loved that. We played in three homecoming games this past year. That tells me that other teams didn’t view us as a tough opponent, and they booked us for homecoming. I love being doubted.
What are you going to miss the most from the 2025 class?
The brotherhood we had. We were always here for one another between the highs and the lows during the season.
What did you learn about yourself during the 2024 season that you can use this season to be a better player?
From being the only junior on the line last year, I had the luxury of being able to learn from the other linemen and receive tips that I can carry into my senior season.
What makes you a good teammate?
Always being positive no matter what is going on. If somebody messes up, instead of criticizing them, help them fix the mistake.
Can the band, fans, and cheerleaders get you fired up before and during the game? Explain
It does, no doubt. Running out of the tunnel and seeing all of the fans and the band playing gets me going. When it comes to fourth down and you’re trying to flip the momentum, the fans are always right there.
How important is community buy-in to you and the team itself?
It’s so important. Going on with the last question, when you get down, the fans can help you get back into it.
If you could pick one team from Ohio to play and play the game at Paycor Stadium, who are you playing and why?
Moeller, they’re one of the best, if not the best, teams in Ohio, and we believe we can play with anybody. We’re a 1A school, so people think since we’re so small, we aren’t very good, but that’s not the case at all. We love competition.
What are the first words out of your coach's mouth if you screw up at practice?
Some coaches will yell at the player for their mistake, but our coaches understand that yelling does nothing. Instead, they go back to the previous play and show you what you did wrong and how to fix it.
During our interview last year, you had said you wanted to improve on getting off the ball quicker and staying low. Were you able to achieve those goals?
I was able to improve on those things. Between doing drills during practice and staying after practice to get extra work in, I was able to achieve those goals.
Which part of practice is your favorite?
Team for sure. I always love competing and making each other better.
What is your favorite weather to play in?
I love playing in the rain. The ball gets wet so you can’t throw, so we get to run block and get after people majority of the plays.
Are you approaching things differently, with this season being your final high school season?
I’ve always given 100 percent in every game and practice in the past seasons, but I’ve always had the option of saying, We’ll get them next season, or We can improve this in the offseason. Now I don’t have the ability to say that, so I’m definitely giving everything I have every day.
After the season is over, how important is it to you to have earned an invite to the East vs. West All-Star Game?
It is very important to me to receive an invite to the All-Star Game. I know I have the ability to play with the best of the best. It’s important I show that every week during the season so I can receive an invitation to play.
Would you share with the readers the colleges you are hearing from?
Purdue, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State, Moorehead, Thomas Moore, and Mount St. Joseph. I am extremely blessed to be in this opportunity and can’t wait to see what the future brings.
What is a food that you enjoy that most others do not?
I love oatmeal. I always ask my friends if they want oatmeal for breakfast, and they look at me weird.
Who is your favorite athlete?
Aaron Donald
Which sport do you think would be the hardest to be successful at, bowling or golf?
Golf, for sure. There’s so much that goes into being successful at golf. If you mess one little thing up with your swing, you can hit the ball terribly.
