How important is it to you that the team not only gets along on the field but off of it too?
Absolutely, it is very important to me because a better bond off the field allows for more chemistry on it. Being a team player is a big thing; there’s no being selfish in football, and that starts with building connections with the people you’re fighting with every day. We do plenty of team-bonding activities and love to go out and get food together.
What does "community buy-in" mean to you?
Everyone shows up with full effort and ready to work; if everyone is on the same page with that every day, it’ll be a good year. Buying in means putting in work when people aren’t around; buying in means having the same end goal and everyone doing what they can to reach that goal. To buy in, people need to have the mentality that every down they need to go 100%; they need to learn their plays and jobs on the field and have them down; they need to give their effort to the game and have the passion to push through the tiredness and eliminate the outside factors that hold them back on the field so they can be 100%. Buying in happens off and on the field; all actions are accounted for. You need to be bought in all the time, not only in certain moments.
What makes you a good teammate?
I'm always going to try to encourage and coach up the guy behind me. I don’t wish the worst for my teammates; I wish nothing but the best for all my guys, so I do what I can to help them be successful. I always go to the field and invite everyone to come out and get some work.
When the game is on the line, why should your number be called?
Because of all the hours put in the dark, all the field sessions, workouts, going to the gym, and everything else, I am prepared for moments like those so I can make the most of them.
What has been your biggest moment on the field?
Getting a 25-yard completion to set my team up for our first scoring touchdown of the season after having a bad last couple of games, helping build up our momentum, is the biggest thing someone can do.
Who has been the best player that you have faced in a game, along with the team he played with?
Dante McClenllan
Can you share with the readers some of the camps that you have attended, along with some of the biggest lessons that you have learned?
Toledo, Kent State, Walsh, Tiffin, Mount St. Joseph, Shock Doctor Regional Football Camp
I’ve learned some things to tweak my game; I learned some things for my mental part of the game and things to do to elevate to a collegiate level.
What do you feel is the strongest part of your game?
Route running and understanding offensive concepts
In your opinion, what will it take for the GlenOak program to start winning consistently?
Effortlessly playing every down, all 11 guys being on the same page on the field, and a winning attitude. Effort will elevate us from last year to being great. We need to move as a unit, not in groups. If we play as a team, the sky is the limit.
How are you getting over a bad game?
Watch film, think about my mistakes, realize my mistakes, evaluate my mistakes, and figure out ways to improve my game so those mistakes don’t happen again.
If you are invited to play in any of the all-star games after the season, will you play?
Yes.
What advice are you giving the first-year starter right before you take the field on opening night?
Watch the guys ahead of you, be focused on the game if you're not in it, and always keep working and improving on yourself because that’s the way to elevate from the rest. Put in the hours if you want it to pay off, and have fun and enjoy all of it; it goes by fast.
What is your favorite class or subject?
Forensics
Have you gone to a RubberDucks baseball game?
No.
Have you been to the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
