My first start came at the beginning of the playoffs. I only got one snap vs Lancaster, but had several vs Groveport Madison. The reality hit me against Groveport Madison when I looked up and saw 2 D1 Defensive Linemen prospects on the other side. As the playoffs continued, my confidence grew and gained the trust of my coaches and teammates.
How did you get into being a long snapper?
My dad saw a tweet from Liam McCullough offering long snapping coaching. My dad asked me if it was something I wanted to try. I started doing it and really liked it. Liam ended up getting picked up by the Atlanta Falcons. Then my mom and dad found Coach Jeff Lomonico and I have been snapping with him ever since.
What is the toughest part of being a long snapper?
Toughest part about being a long snapper is that you are expected to be perfect on every snap. We are judged on our misses and are at our best when no one notices us.
How many reps are you getting during the week to perfect your craft?
I go every Sunday to work with Coach Lomonico. We go for 1 hour to an hour and a half where we snap nonstop for around 300 snaps. During the week I may snap with my dad or teammates 15-20 reps at a time.
What are your goals for the 2025 season?
I want to be the best teammate I can possibly be and help lead the younger players by example. My personal goals are to get stronger and faster and not be noticed on any of my snaps.
What is the worst type of weather for you as the long snapper to play in?
Rain, easily. The balls are wet and heavy. It makes it so much more difficult to get the correct spin.
What were your feelings as you first stepped on the field at Tom Benson Stadium?
It was surreal. I just couldn’t believe I got to be here with my awesome teammates. To be able to play for it all with this team was an unbelievable moment.
What was it like when you guys realized you were going to win the state championship?
It was just an amazing moment. To see these seniors finish their high school career as state champions and to be apart of that was an honor. I couldn’t be more excited for them.
Other than the state final win, what has been your biggest accomplishment as an athlete?
Gaining the trust of my coaches and seniors for the playoffs. I started out 4th string snapper at the beginning of the year. I kept working my way up the depth chart and found myself starting. I did not want to let my coaches or teammates down, so I made sure to really work and focus on being the best I can be.
How do you get over a bad game or practice?
Its a lot like having a bad snap. You have to have a short memory and move on to the next one.
Could you share with the readers some of the camps that you are attending?
Notre Dame, University of Cincinnati, Northwestern, Western Michigan, The Ohio State, Kentucky.
What is one thing you love to do in a game but might never get a chance to?
Score a touchdown. I had a chance in the state championship game, but the returner just fell on the ball before I got there.
Do you feel that you and your teammates are role models to the young kids who come and watch you play?
Yes. I had the honor to play with Andrew Leonard, Jake Struct, Christian Moulton, Austin Stamp, Charlie Donahue, Bailey Byrd, Elliot Rankin and many more who were great leaders and role models that left a huge impact on the Powell community. Those young kids who come to the games will always have the example of what this team accomplished.
What is your dream vacation spot?
Manhattan Beach CA.
Have you gone to a Columbus Clippers game?
Yeah. Love Dime a dog night. Caught my fair share of foul balls.
What is the one sport you cannot watch?
Swimming, nothing really interesting about it.
