What, if anything, shocked you about being the varsity QB?
Really just how I had to step up more as a leader; I had to set the temperature of the team; I had to stay calm so that everyone else would stay calm, and that was for sure new to me.
What are your personal goals for the 2025 season?
Just to hopefully earn the opportunity to play a larger role, I want to be the guy that everyone wants the ball in my hands if the game is on the line, and that is what I am training for this entire off-season.
What goals are you setting for the team?
Winning the SOC is always a big goal for us. Another thing I would love is for us to beat Fairland. The class of seniors before us never got the most of them, and the past three years neither has my class. I for sure would love for us to end that streak.
What are you looking forward to the most this season?
Really, to just have a good year with all the guys for one last time, I have loved all the guys I’ve played with for the past three years, and I have created some bonds that I will never forget, so I really look forward to having one last great year with all those guys.
What have you been doing during the off-season to aid you in being a better player?
The team got a new lifting program this year that has for sure been putting us all through it, so that has been a huge help. I have also been going to ApPrep all winter and will continue to go over the summer; both of these things have been playing huge parts in making me stronger, faster, and better in all the aspects I would need on the field.
What type of defense do you like facing the best?
I had my best game against Northwest’s defense. They seemed very compacted and were very focused on stopping our run game, so when we spread it out against them and put the ball in the air, we were very successful.
What makes you a good teammate?
I think I am a good leader; I try my best to stay up and positive with all of my teammates and to encourage them when they get down, so I think that is my best quality as a teammate.
Which away stadium is the worst to play in? Explain
This past year was definitely Portsmouth. They are always super hyped up and loud. And there are also always a bunch of people there on both sides, as that is considered somewhat of a rivalry game, so the environment there is always loud and aggressive, especially if you are on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
Which away stadium do you like playing at the most?
While it may sound crazy, part of me also loves the Portsmouth or Wheelersburg-type places; while they are, of course, rooting against me and my team, I’ve always loved the loud environments; it gets me extra hyped up.
How would you go about helping one of your teammates who is having a bad game or practice?
I would just do my best to encourage them, and if I can, help them with whatever they may be struggling with.
What is your favorite sports show or movie?
I have to say Varsity Blues.
What was the last book you read, along with the author?
I’m not a big reader of just normal books. I do try to read my Bible as much as I can, though.
If there were no cell phones or internet, what would you do?
I actually think I would love it; I would spend a lot more time out of the house. While phones and technology have made life much more convenient, I think they have also caused some problems, especially for younger people. Plus, I’ve always imagined living in a time era kind of like when the movie The Sandlot was placed in; it just seems like so much fun.
Memories by Brody
One thing that sticks out for me from last year was for sure the Minford game. It had to be moved to that Saturday because it was raining so hard on Friday, and then it also rained on Saturday, so their grass field was a muddy mess, so while getting the snap transfer down between me and my center wasn’t the most fun thing, it was pretty fun to play in the mud. It is for sure something I will always remember.
