(Softball)Millersport Lakers 24 The Wellington School 00

Today a change of plans took me to Millersport High School to watch the Lakers tangle with the Wellington School out of Columbus. I was told by a parent that the Jaguars were missing four girls from sickness to drama club practice.

The Lakers got busy in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring three runs. Emma Raver got things started with a single to make this a 1-0 game. Kendyl Bonkowski hit an RBI triple to make the score 2-0. Bonkowsi would do a lot of her damage on the mound, where she fired a complete game one hitter. Scarlet Sheets made it 3-0 with a single.

The Lakers went back to work in the bottom half of the 2nd inning with Claire Haney drilling a single to drive in the Lakers fourth run. Emma Raver hit an inside-the-park two-run homer to make this a 6-0 game. The Lakers made it 7-0 when Bailey Betz hit an RBI double.

The Lakers again got things going in the bottom half of the third with Ava Blevins getting a double and an RBI to increase the Lakers lead to 8-0. A pretty bunt single by Claire Haney put the Lakers up 9-0. A single by Haiden Byrd and a throwing error on the Wellington scored allowed two runs to score, making this an 11-0 game. Gracie O'Neil got into the action with a two-run single to put the Lakers up 13-0. The final run in the inning came on a triple from Ginny Worstall, making the score 14-0.

The Lakers saved their best for the bottom of the fourth, starting with an RBI single from Claire Haney to put the Lakers up 15-0. Scarlet Sheets got an RBI when she was hit by a pitch, and this was a 16-0 game. A bases-loaded walk to O'Neil made the score 17-0. Bonkowski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make the score 18-0. Adalee Martin worked a walk with the bases loaded again to pick up an RBI, and the score was 19-0. Ava Blevins singled a run in to make it a 20-0 game. Walks to Haney and Raver put the Lakers up 22-0. Bonkowski rounded out the Lakers scoring with a two-run single to make the final score 24-0. The Lakers move to 7-2 on the season while the Jags fall to 0-3.
