(Softball)Johnstown Johnnies post a 3-2 win over the Lakewood Lancers
Today I made the drive from Planet Fitness in Gahanna to Johnstown High School to watch the Johnstown Johnnies battle the Lakewood Lancers. Johnstown, according to MaxPreps, came in with a 3-5 record overall and 203 in the tough Licking County League. The Lancers came in 12-1 overall and 5-1 in the Licking County League.
This was a tight game from the beginning to the end. The good for the Johnnies was they won the game while totaling just five hits. They committed just one error, while their two pitchers, Riley Stefanick and Lucia Kuhn, combined for zero wild pitches, giving up a total of just eight hits to a powerful Lancers lineup. Together they had 4 bases on balls and 7 strikeouts. The bad for the Lancers was two wild pitches and an error that led to Johnstown's first run. In the final two innings, the Lancers left five runners on base, and in that time, they scored just one run.
The Lancers opened the scoring in the top half of the first on an RBI double by Jacie Montie. Johnstown tied it with a walk, two wild pitches, and a fielder's choice groundout by Brooklyn Wood. Johnstown went up 3-1 in the third on an error by Brianna Hoisington, followed a short time later by a fielder's choice ground out by Addy Zak. A single by Lucia Kuhn made it 3-1. The Lancers would load the base in the sixth inning but score just one run on a Hoisington.
Leading the Johnnies with two hits was Kuhn. For the Lancers, Hoisington and Ashlyn Carder had two hits apiece. Montie had the only extra-base hit of the game.
