Louisville takes down Aiken 63-61 to win Division 3 state title


 

The Division III state final game pitted the speedy, hard-nosed Cincinnati Falcons against the Slow and Steady Louisville Leopards. The Falcons came in with a 27-1 record while Louisville came in 23-5.

The first quarter would see Tate Aljancic go off for ten points to lead Louisville, who jumped out to an early 23-12 lead. In the quarter, Louisville hit 8-12 shots compared to 41.7% for the Falcons. Aiken would get 7 points from James Burnett Jr. In the quarter, Burnett hit 3-4 shots. Two big stats in the quarter were that Louisville hit 5-5 from three-point land, while Aiken hit 1-4, and from the free throw line, Louisville was perfect 5-5 and Aiken was 1-1.

The second quarter was much like the opening quarter, with the Leopards outscoring the Falcons 15-7. Aiken hit just 3-9 from the field with Burnett again leading the way with 6 points on 3-5 shooting. For Louisville, Avery Andrejcik made his presence known with 8 points. He too hit 3-5 shots. In the quarter, Louisville again shot better, hitting 41.7% of their shots compared to 33.3% for the Falcons.

The third quarter was a thing of beauty for the Falcons as they blistered Louisville 23-7 in the quarter. Hitting 56.3% of their shots helped out in a large way. Jaiden Arnold led the way with 10 points, including going 2-2 from three-point land. Antonio Hutcherson Jr. chipped in with 8 points. He was perfect in the quarter, going 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe. Aiken was mean on the boards, winning the battle 8-3. For Louisville, Beau Siegfried's 3 points led the way. The Falcons forced 5 turnovers while they did not turn the ball over.

The final frame was the most competitive of the game, with Louisville outscoring the Falcons 19-18 and escaping with the state title, winning 63-61. For Louisville, Siegfried and Ashton Marshall both scored 5 points. For the game, Tate Aljancic led Louisville with 17 points, 3 boards, and 3 assists. Siegfried and Andrejcik each added 14 points. Brayden Gross led the team with 14 boards. As a team, Louisville hit 54.8% from the floor.

For the Falcons, they were led by multi-talented James Burnett Jr. (23 points, 6 boards). Jaiden Arnold added 15 points and 5 boards. Antonio Hutcherson Jr. had a nice game with 13 points. At 6 feet, Tayvon Smith had 8 boards to lead the team.
