(Girls) Portsmouth Trojans are your Division V Champs with a 53-38 win over Norwayne

Portsmouth might have the fastest hands in the state of Ohio when it comes to girls basketball, and their opponent is fresh off of a win over the beast known as Africentric Early College, who in their own right is downright quick with the hands too. As I thought of this matchup, my first thought was, could the Bobcats find a way to slow down Portsmouth? When all was said and done, the answer was simply no!!!

With 2,699 total people in U.D. Arena, Portsmouth would jump out of the gate, doubling up the Bobcats 16-8, and never really looked back as they would go on to win the state title and make many of the posters on Southeasternohiopreps.com as happy as they could be. The Trojans hit 7-12 in the quarter, with Sienna Allen leading the way with 7 points. On the other hand, the Bobcats made just 2-7 field goals, with Ava Maibach scoring 5 points. But the biggest difference in the quarter was the Trojans defense forced 10 Bobcats turnovers while committing just three themselves.

In the second quarter, both teams had five turnovers, but the Trojans were able to find a way to score 11 points and hold the Bobcats to just 6 points. In the quarter, Sienna Allen and Hayven Carter each had 4 points. The Trojans would make 4-9 from the field. For the Bobcats, who at this point looked three steps slower than the Trojans, the hand speed looked like Sugar Ray Leonard vs. a slow Randall Tex Cobb. In the quarter, the Bobcats hit 2-8 shots. Three Bobcats scored 2 points each in the quarter.

The third quarter was competitive with both teams scoring double figures. For Portsmouth, they would total 19, with Keke Woods leading the way with 6 points. Overall, the Trojans had 5 players score, making it difficult for the Bobcats to focus on one player. Woods hit 3-4 shots in the period. For the Bobcats, they would score 14 points, with Allie Demassimo leading the way with 6 points. She would connect on 2-6 shots, with both made shots being behind the three-point line.

In the final frame, the Bobcats would outscore the Trojans 10-7. In the quarter, Ava Maibach had 5 points but did so hitting just 2-7 shots. For the Trojans, Sienna Allen made both of her shots to lead the way with 4 points.

For the game, Sienna Allen would lead the winners with a game-high 17 points. She would add 5 boards and 4 assists to her slate. Sharia Kearns and Woods each finished the game with 11 points. Daysha Reid quietly added 10 points with 3 assists and rebounds.

For the Bobcats, Ava Maibach led the way with 15 points, 8 boards, and 3 assists. The junior looks primed to have a big senior year. Next season. Junior Allie Demassimo struggled from the field, hitting just 3 of 11 shots, and finished her night with 9 points.

Turnovers went 24 for the Bobcats and 14 for the Trojans. Portsmouth's hand speed and quick feet, added to their on-court smarts, were the biggest difference in this championship game. The Trojans had 12 assists while the Bobcats had 8. There were 27 fouls called, with 15 being called on the winners.
