State Final Wahama 29 Cameron 22


 

Charleston, West Virginia The West Virginia State Football Finals got started with #3 Wahama going up against #4 Cameron. 4,187 fans showed up in 32-degree weather with lots of sunshine.

Wahama would have two players go for over 100 yards. Trace Simpkins would tot the rock 16 times for 125 yards and a touchdown, with his longest run covering 36 yards. Connor Lambert scored 2 touchdowns on 18 carries, picking up 114 yards on the day. For Cameron, Klypsan Wallace picked up 100 yards on 22 carries. The lone rushing score for the Dragons came from Kason Angel. In all, he picked up 64 yards on 10 carries.

Cameron had two touchdown receptions. Mason Scott and Wes Starcher hauled in the scores. Scott would catch 2 passes for 55 yards on the day while Starcher grabbed just one ball for 14 yards.

Four players, two from each team, picked up 9 total tackles. For the Dragons, Wallace and Freshman Talen Brown, and for the Hawks, Reezin Stitt and Jake Roberts.

Wahama would pick up 306 yards while Cameron totaled 298. Wahama rushed for 306 yards, and Cameron totaled 184 yards rushing. The game would see 11 penalties called, with Cameron picking up 7 of those.

Simpkins got Wahama on the board first with a 36-yard run. Wyatt Harris was true on the PAT kick to make this a 7-0 game with 9:58 left in the opening quarter.

Cameron would take the lead with 6:44 left in the first quarter when Starcher hauled in a 14-yard pass from Angel. Angel converted a two-point run, making the score 8-7.

Cameron added to their lead when Angel plowed in from a yard out to make the score 14-7 with 5:18 left in the half. The Hawks locked things up at 14 when Harris scored on a 2-yard run and then converted the PAT with 1:30 left in the half.

Lambert scored twice in the third quarter, putting Wahama up 29-14. His first score came on a 1-yard run and the second on a 5-yard run.

The lone score of the final stanza came on a 22-yard Scott-to-Angel pass with the PAT converted by Wallace, giving us the final score of 29-22.
