Ironton takes state 28-17 over Liberty Center

Canton, Ohio—With a total of 4,981 fans in the stadium, Ironton and Liberty Center were set to battle for the Division Five state title. Ironton was looking for their third state title (79 & 89), while Liberty Center was seeking their second (97).

Ironton has one of the best players in the state of Ohio, and it should not have come as a surprise to anyone that he would be a major reason in determining how his team would do. Shaun Terry would not disappoint his teammates, coaches, or the town of Ironton as he had a huge game in his final appearance for the Fighting Tigers. He would have 10 receptions, good for 148 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed the ball two times for 75 yards and a touchdown. He had a 35-yard punt return. Altogether he had 291 all-purpose yards.

The Fighting Tigers also had a very good game from Braden Schreck. The senior quarterback threw for 171 on 15-21 passes with two touchdowns. The senior went out with a bang and left a big space to fill at his position for the new QB in 2025. He also rushed for a score, gaining 49 yards on 16 carries.

Overall, Ironton had 319 total yards.

For Liberty Center, Waylon Rentz had a rushing touchdown to go with 44 yards. He carried the rock 20 times, being held to 1.7 yards a carry. He had a long run of six yards, as he could never get going.

Kaden Krienbrink threw for a touchdown. He would go 6-10 for 44 yards and a pick. Grady Miller threw for 74 yards on 6-8 passing. Neither had an easy time of it, but neither seemed to be lacking in effort. an easy time of it, but neither seemed to be lacking in effort. The Fighting Tigers defense seemed to know what was coming more times than not, and that made things more than hard for the two.

Garrison Kruse had 4 receptions, 43 yards, and a TD catch. His longest reception went for 11 yards. He had help from Cam Kahle: 4 catches, 45 yards. Kruse is just a sophomore while Kahle is a senior.

On the defensive side of things, Brycen Mullins led Ironton with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Nick Sites checked in with 10 tackles and 1 1/2 tackles for loss. Josh Jonson forced a fumble to go with 4 tackles.

Liberty Center was led by Kruse and Jackson Bartels with 11 tackles apiece.
