Union Local Jets fly high over Bellaire 50-18

*Using the Union Roster from Hudl and Max Preps.*
Yesterday afternoon I made another drive to Bellaire to watch the Big Reds battle Union Local Jets in a game that Calpreps had as a three-score game, with the Jets predicted to be the victor.
The Jets defense would take flight when #24 Max Duncan made a diving interception on a pass thrown by Michael Dippel just fifty-two seconds into the game.
The Bellaire would stand tall on the ensuing drive, forcing the Jets into a fourth-and-one situation where they opted to go for it. Isaiah Tomolonis had his number called, but the Big Reds were more than ready, with Landon Preston stuffing the play and getting the ball back to the Bellaire offense with 8:57 remaining in the quarter.
Bradyn Beckett would gallop to a 23-yard run to get the Bellaire crowd on their feet at the 8:43 mark. Dippel would find one of the best younger players I have watched this season, Raekwon Pettigrew, for a big 32-yard gain at the 7:22 mark of the quarter. The Jets defense would bare down and get the ball back to their offense a short time later.
Bellaire's Alex Padgett would recover a Clay Akers fumble after Akers made a catch and tried to get some Y.AC.
Dippel would be sacked by Daniel Goodson and John Kovacs for a loss of six, forcing a Big Reds punt with a little over 3:00 left in the quarter.
Tomolonis would bust free for a 17-yard gain with 1:53 showing on the clock. The Jets drive continued into the 2nd quarter with Billy Schumacher hauling in a 25-yard catch with 10:02 left in the half on a crisp pass thrown by Colby Carpenter. Carpenter to Dre Saunders rought a 14-yard gain. Carpenter ended the 10-play, 78-yard drive with an 8-yard run, with a hole opening up for him as his offensive line was flawless on the play. Graham Campbell blocked the PAT to keep this a 6-0 game with 6:14 left in the half.
The Bellaire would get an 18-yard run by Dipple, but the Jets defense put the clamps down on the offense again, getting the ball back to its offense a short time later.
A 56-yard pass to Schumacher set up a 22-yard field goal by Jeff Bolon, making this a 9-0 game, as the teams headed into the locker rooms. Schumacher was very good the last time I watched him play, and this time he was even better.
The Jets came out flying in the third quarter, with Carpenter finding Schumacher for 14 yards on third and ten. The same duo hooked up again for a 16-yard touchdown with 8:52 showing on the clock to make this a 16-0 game. The drive totaled 7 plays and 58 yards.
One of the most dangerous Sophomores I have watched play this season has been Raekwon Pettigrew, and like any young player, he will make so many mistakes and then make some terrible plays. With 8:35 showing on the clock, he would bust free for a gain of 40 yards, with the speed and downfield vision that would make the long line of athletes in his family proud. The Bellaire offense would not do much after that big run as the Jets defense recovered nicely.
A 20-yard run from Brody Perzanowski would set up the next Jets score that came on a 21-yard from Ayden Graham on a perfectly run option play when the Jets were facing a fourth and one with 3:111 left in the quarter, making this a 23-0 game.
Pettigrew caught a tight throw from Dipple, and then he was able to sprint 58 yards for the score to make this a 23-6 at the 1:45 mark of the quarter. Dipple is also a Sophomore, and the kid might struggle at times, but when he has time, he can be a very dangerous weapon.
Perzanowski would use a Barry Sanders-type spin move with a twist of Robert Newhouse power to pick up 29 yards with 29.6 seconds left on the clock. He would cap off the 4-play, 54-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, making this a 30-6 game as the teams prepared for the final frame.
Bellaire closed to within 30-12 on a 78-yard touchdown pass from Dipple to Pettigrew with 11:37 left in the game. When the young offensive line steps up, this is the kind of play the offense is able to make.
On the ensuing kickoff, Graham coughed the ball up, and Johnny On The Spot for Bellaire was Alex Ney. 6 plays and 40 yards later, Bellaire had made this a 30-18 game. The score came from an 18-yard pass to Pettigrew with 9:37 left.
Pettigrew would come up big again, but this time it would be on the defensive side of the ball, where he picked off a Carpenter pass with 8:49 left.
Uncle Mo. is a finicky beast to tame, and with 8:33 showing on the clock, he would show this again when Saunders picked off the Big Red pass. Two plays and 60 yards later, the Jets went up 36-18 on a 53-yard run by Perzanowski. Graham Campbell did block the point after the Big Reds special team unit showed no quit.
The DL Burnworth hit of the game came on the ensuing kickoff, when Pettigrew was blasted by Ryder Gainer. The Jets would score twice more before the game was over. Kaden Cross scored on a 12-yard run, and Max Ducan scored on a 20-yard scoop and score to make the final 50-15 Jets.
