Pass happy Western Brown turns away Chillicothe 38-20

Note: I used the rosters for each team from Hudl and Max Preps.

Mt. Orab, Ohio On Friday night, Chilicothe came calling on Western Brown, looking not only for their first win of the 2024 tackle football season but also for their first points. For Werstern Brown and their all-gas no-break wide open offense, they were looking to stay undefeated.

Things started off as well as the Cavaliers could have hoped when Vic Hitchens fielded the opening kickoff and took it all the way to the Western Brown 32-yard line. Facing a third on four later on the drive, Cartae Ligon broke to his left, picking up 5 yards to move the chians. Andrew Hamman would find Daniel Scissum for 9 yards. Scissum is listed as a defensive tackle and guard on the roster. With 10:16 left in the quarter, the 5-play, 32-yard drive came to a climax on an 11-yard run by Freshman Cartae Ligon. The point after a kichk from Connor Bolen was true to make this a 7-0 game, with 10:16 remaining in the quarter.

The Broncos would not take long in responding; it would take them just three plays to cover the 67 yards needed to tie the game. The scoring play came on a 66-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Harmon. Camdyn Cunningham #30 locked this one up with his point after kick.

The Cavaliers would use a 12-yard run from Ligon to get their next drive off and running. Ligon would lose 2 yards when he was plastered to the turf by Denver Ballou. Later on the drive, the Cavs would face third and eighteen where Ligon would haul in a pass from Hamman for 18 yards to again move the chains. The 12-play, 65-yard drive would end on a 1-yard touchdown run by Hamman to make the score 13-7, with 4:02 left in the quarter. The point-after kick was blocked by Ty Spaulding.

The Broncos would get a 16-yard pass from Brady Sutton to Justin Morgan at the 3:49 mark of the quarter. It appeared the Broncos had tied the game up when Sutton scored from 25 yards out, but a flag was thrown on the play, negating the score. As a good team will do and the Broncos are a very good team, they overcame the mistake and ended their 10-play, 65-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run from Morgan to take the 14-13 lead with 51 seconds left in the exciting opening quarter.

Just nine seconds into the second quarter, Ligon picked up 26 yards on a nice run. Ligon did not seem to have that 4.3-type speed, but he seemed to have superman-like field vision that enabled him to make defenders look silly at times. A sack on Hamman by Connor Hodge helped put an end to the drive.

The Broncos would start their next drive 98 yards away from pay dirt. They would use just two runs on the 12-play drive that ended with Harmon scoring from 35 yards out to make this a 2013 game, with 4:57 left in the half. Harmon, after all was said and done, would have 118 yards to go with his two scores.

The Cavs defense would get a nice play from Jett McAllister, who got to Sutton for a loss of two. The half came to an end with the Broncos leading 24-13 as Camdyn Cunningham hit a 25-yard field goal before the half ended.

Seven seconds into the third quarter, Sutton found Elijah Valdez for a 32-yard gain. A short time later, this would become a 3-13 game with Sutton hitting Brad Barger for a 20-yard score. The scary part about the Broncos offense is you cannot focus on one player because Sutton seems the ball to anyone who goes out of a pass.

The early dominance by the Broncos continued, this time on defense, where Cartoe Saylor got to Hamman for a 10-yard loss, with 10:15 remaining in the third.

The Cavs defense showed some life at the 5:25 mark when Cameron Badger sacked Sutton for a loss of 6 yards. Sutton shook of the sack like a dog and scratched away a flee with a 40-yard strike to Justin Morgan with 4:56 left on the clock. The drive ended on a 34-yard score by Morgan, making this a 38-13 game with 4:44 left on the clock.

The Cavs would get a 50-yard completion from Hamman to Milton Beverly before the third quarter ended.

With 9:22 left in the game, Jordan Suwannasing picked up 12 yards on a sweet run. The clock read 7:22 left when it appeared Zaiden Nichols had a pick for the Broncos but a flag negating the play. Unofficially, there were 31 flags thrown before the fat lady sang her song. The last score of the game came from Suwannasing on a 3-yard run, making this a 38-20 game.

The last big play of the game came on a Hamman sack from Denver Ballou.
