Ocean City uses strong defense to defeat Cinnaminson 35-7

Ocean City-

This was my first time seeing Ocean City and Cinnaminson play, so going in I knew little about either team. With Ocean City being the home team, I was able to talk to a few fans, and they all said that their team was going to win and did not think there was going to be any doubt about who the better team was after all was said and done.

The Ocean City defense got things started when Jake Chapman sacked Dylan McAndrews for a loss of four just one minute into the game.

Baily Walker showed he was ready for this one as he picked up 32 yards on two carries, and then later in the quarter, Ocean City would light up the scoreboard on a touchdown run from Clay Compton to make this a 6-0 game. J.P. Forster would make this a 7-0 game as he easily nailed his point after kick, with 6:05 left on the first quarter clock.

In the second quarter, Triston Schmidt picked up 21 yards on two carries for the home team. Schmidt was dropped for a four-yard loss by Jason Straub. The Cinnaminson defense came up even bigger nine seconds later when Paul Magin picked off Ocean City quartback Walker Baily with 7:48 left in the half.

The Pirates would fumble the ball on their first play after recovering the fumble and pouncing on it at the 6-yard line was Joe Beardis for Ocean City. Four plays later, Schmidt plowed in from a yard out to make this a 14-0 game.

Late in the half, Bailey was picked off again, this time by Sody Gantt. Dylan McAndrews would shake off being hit as he threw the ball by still completing the pass to Tyler Palladino good for 31 yards and setting up a 13-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Prendergast. The point after kick by Aedan Burk, we had a 14-7 game as the teams headed into the locker rooms.

With the wind blowing my notebook all over the place, it was hard to take notes, but I did manage to get the 4-yard touchdown tun from Clay Compton, with 0:52 seconds left in the third to put Ocean City up 21-7.

In the final frame, the home team tacked on two touchdowns. The first came from a 1-yard Schmidt run, and the final score came on a 2-yard run by Jackson Becker to give us the 35-7 final score.

Ocean City held the Cinnaminson offense to 16 yards in the second half, forcing five straight three-and-outs.
