Aiken Falcons fly to a 32-6 win over Cincinnati Woodward

My Saturday travels took me to Cincinnati, Ohio, to watch the double-header football game at Stargel Stadium, where in game number one Aiken was battling Woodward. Coming into the game, Aiken entered 3-1 with their opening game being cancelled against Cleveland. East Technical, Woodward entered the contest 0-4, being outscored 121-0.

Andrew Underwood would bust free along the right side to pick up 30 yards, setting the tone for what was going to happen in this contest, though it would take sometime for the story to be told.

The Bulldogs defense would growl a little with 6:01 left in the opening quarter when Cartier Page and Quantez Johnson teamed up to stop Aiken's Mikelle Moore for a loss of six. Defense continued to lead the quarter, but this time it was the Falcons turn to make a statement, with Trey Harris stopping the Bulldogs Anthony Jasper after quarterback Jasiah Williams mishandled the rock. Williams would cough the ball up with the Falcons Malachi Reid coming up with it to put the Falcons offense on the field, with 4:30 remaining. Moore would be stopped by Paige for a loss of five. Paige would stand out in this game a lot, as this young man seems to be a player any coach in the area would love to have on their team.

With 2:43 left on the first quarter clock, the Falcons faced a fourth and thirty on the Bulldogs thirty, and they elected to go for it. The result was an Underwood pass to Elijah Lewis for the game's first touchdown to make this a 6-0 game, as the two-point conversion was stooped.

Williams would put the rock on the turf again, but for the Bulldogs, Anthony Jasper pounced on it with 2:03 left on the quarter. The quarrel would end with the score still 6-0.

Moore broke free for 30 yards just eight seconds into the 2nd quarter to jump start the Falcons offense. The drive ended a fity five seconds later with Deymor Thiam hauling in a 15-yard pass from Underwood. Juwan Jordan broke up the two-point conversion pass to keep this a 12-0 Falcons lead.

Williams would be sacked by Damani Freeman for a short loss, with 9:47 left in the half. Tyrone Freeman would be the next Falcon to step up on defense when he stopped Courdy Allen on a fake punt attempt, with 9:04 showing on the clock.

On the ensuing Aiken drive, a 17-yard pass to Lewis took the ball to the Bulldogs three, where Moore would take the rock and rush in to make this an 18-0 game with 7:53 left.

Deymor Thiam would get to Jasper for a short loss, then things got worse for the Bulldogs on their punt. A bad snap would result in Courday Allen being downed by Tyrone Freeman and Deondre Jenkins to give the Falcons the ball back. The Bulldogs defense would stop Aiken from scoring on the ensuing drive as they continued to show no quit.

Williams would find Quantez Johnson for a nice 17-yard pickup. But six seconds later, Williams would be picked off by #19 Mar'Quaze Curtis. On the ensuing drive, Underwood would find Moore for the 15-yard score. Underwood then connected with Mamadou Kante to make this a 26-0 game with 1:01 left in the half.

The third quarter would see Woodward score their first points on the 2024 football season when Williams hit Nez Mincey for the 39-yard score to make this a 26-6 game at the 10:44 mark. Just sixteen seconds later, the Bulldogs defense would get an interception by King Blankumsee.

After being stopped on a fourth down attempt, the Falcons defense would sack Williams, with Deymor Thiam and #19 Mar'Quaze Curtis doing the honors. The defense would get their offense on the field a short time later as they continued to be strong on the drive.

After a 24-yard run from Kendall Watson, the Falcons would put the ball on the turf, where Juwan Jordan punched on it for the Bulldogs. The last big play of the quarter came from the Aiken defense, with Deondre Jenkins getting to Williams for a short loss.

Moore would take the ball to the 3 yard line with 9:55 remaining in the game when he took off on a 31-yard run to set up the final score of the game that came on a 3 yard run from Jayden Harrison to give us our final score of 32-6.

The final big play in this one came from the Aiken defense, where Abdul Scko picked off the Wiliams pass.
