Ready for Varsity

Cory Nicodemus

Grove City High School

Left offense tackle and defensive tackle

2028

6'5 290 Lbs.

Starting with that first week of practice, what were your personal goals?

My first goal was to be the hardest-working player on the field. My second goal was to maintain a coachable attitude and establish myself as a role model for the other players.

From practice number one heading into the 2025 season to the last one before game one, what did you learn about your team?

Going into my first freshman practice, I played with the majority of the players peewee football, and I noticed how most of them were developing into more athletic players, playing different positions and learning various techniques at those positions. By game 1, we had begun to gel.

As a freshman heading into your first varsity practice, what were your feelings?

After being asked to dress with the JV/varsity team following game 5, I was beyond excited to practice with the upperclassmen because I knew it would help with the development of my skills at my position.

Heading into the first game of the season as you walked onto the field, what were your emotions?

Heading into the first game of the season, I had nervous excitement because I was ready to put on display what all my lifting and training had prepared me to do.

Being the size you are and a freshman on a very good team, do you feel any extra pressure as far as being the best that you can be?

Absolutely, but I thrive on the pressure. My toughest critic is always going to be me, so I’m always going to hold myself to the highest standard, which in turn I believe makes me better.

Grove City is setting at 5-0, with most of the games being very one-sided. What has been the biggest reason for such a fantastic start?

In any game, I feel we’re the best team with the best coaches. Our coaches have big expectations, and our team rises to the occasion.

Being listed as a tackle and defensive tackle, of the two, which one do you feel you are best at?
Without a doubt, left offensive tackle. I have been playing that position for most of my football life, and I have developed my own personal strategies and techniques that assist me in that position.

So far this season, who has been the best player that you have faced in a game, along with the team he played for?

So far this season, I would say #70 for Pickerington Central. I’m unsure of his name, but to be perfectly honest, the player that gives me the biggest run for my money is my twin brother, who is often lined up against me in practice.

What, if anything has surprised you about the first half of the season?

Nothing. My expectations of this team are to go undefeated.

What must you and the team do to finish the season as strong, if not stronger than you have shown during the first half?

Just maintain the course and continue to work harder than everyone else.

What is your favorite class or subject?

Math is always my favorite subject because it’s always easy for me.

Who are your role models?

One of the role models that I look up to is Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers.

What is your favorite type of music?

Country for sure, but I love classic rock as well.
