My message before the season kicks off

In a few hours, high school football starts not only here in Ohio but in several other states. For the seniors, this is the last game of their high school football career. Some will recognize this in a different way as they leave the locker room and head to the field for warm-ups. For the freshmen that are dressing varsity, they are, or most will have that deer in the headlight look right up until they are in the action; for the other freshmen, it might last until that first kickoff.

Let's not forget about the senior cheerleaders, who have given every ounce they have to do a job that many, especially the fans, often overlook. The senior band members are another group that too many only recognize when we see them on the field.

Before the lights are turned on and the ball is kicked to start the game, I wanted to say, especially to the seniors, take a second and take a good, hard look before you start your part of the game. Make sure your younger teammates are ready to go, and give them that last-second message they might need to get over their nervousness. Be the leader that you are, and have a great game.

Before I bid you a farewell, enjoy each and every second of the season. Winning is the biggest objective when all is said and done, but as important, maybe more so, is to play with class and always remember there is no I in team.
