Coach Jones was a super talented football player. What is it like to play for him?
It’s amazing knowing I’m playing under a guy who made it to where I want to be; he knows the exact right and wrong things that will and will not get me to the level I want to be at!
How long have you played football, along with the reasons that you continue to play?
12-13 years I’ve played the game of football, and I just love the game; all my problems go away on the field. My mind goes blank, and I know what my goal is when I step on the field, and it’s to help my team win and make an impression on somebody with my game!
What were the high and low points of the 2023 season?
In my opinion, our 2023 season was good but obviously a little shabby. We had a lockdown defense that allowed probably the most points in the first four games. Then, in week 5, we played a powerhouse “Scott” without our O coordinator, who seemed to hit us hard. Our energy was good, and we had good players, but that just didn’t get the job done how we wanted! The 2024 season is all built off of the hurt from last year; the first round exits with an 8-2 season.
Who is the best player that you have faced in a game, along with the team that he played for?
I have a couple players that come to mind: Cutter Boley, a QB from Lexington Christian Academy over in KY, went to the University of the UK. I’ve also played with and against kids like Wayne Harris, who’s at Kent State!
What is the toughest part of practice?
Practice is really just a whole bunch of learning and getting us in shape for the upcoming teams we are going to see. If I had to pick a hard part of practice, you’d know I'm saying what every other athlete would, and it’s conditioning.
What is the best part of being a linebacker for Mingo Central High School?
Just knowing I make an impact in the school on the team in any way possible, I try to!
What do you believe is the strongest part of your game?
Shows the ability to take over a game defensively. Active and causes havoc all around the field. Knocks blockers and ball carriers backward and/or off their feet. Instinctive and plays downhill in the run game. Strong enough to play on LOS if necessary but athletic enough to play in coverage. Explodes on contact, visibly changing the LOS or driving ballcarriers backward. He displays loose hips and a great knee bend, and he plays under his pads. Can match up with anyone and run them down. Understands pursuit angles and can close time and space in an instant.
Which offense, as a linebacker, do you like facing the most? Explain?
It doesn’t matter to me; as long as me and my team are doing what we are supposed to, we can shut offenses down!
What were your thoughts when you found out the state championship games were leaving Wheeling and heading to Charleston?
I thought it would have been a better experience with their other ideas, like Marshall and WVU, but it doesn’t matter to me as long as we make it there this year!
After the season is over, if you are invited to play in any of the all-star games, will you?
Every One
Would you share with everyone any college offers that you have, and then share a few of the other schools that you are hearing from?
EKU, Marshall, Morehead State, places like WVU, Georgetown, West Liberty, and KY, I hear from sometimes.
What are your goals for the 2024 season?
Record-setting season, all state championships, and some type of award by the end of the season!
What are your favorite and least favorite types of music?
I like some types of country music, but rap is always my go-to. I don’t really like any type of rock or hardcore music.
What scares you?
God, and losing any of my loved ones or the game of football.
Who are your role models?
My momma and coach Jones!
