2024 Interview with Jay’Quan Crawford from Franklin County High School (KY.)

Jayquan Crawford

School: Franklin County High School

Positions played: RB/LB

Graduating year: 2026

Height and weight 6’2 (215)

What are your goals for the 2024 season?

Some of my goals for this upcoming season are to have at least 1,000 yards and 10+ touchdowns. One of my other goals is to be a reliable player on our team.

What will you miss the most from the 2024 class?

The things I would miss most about the 2024 class are the seniors, who gave all of their blood, sweat, and tears for the team during the hard times and games and practices. I’m going to miss being 13-0 and being one of the top teams in the state of Kentucky and our region.

What was the high point of your 2023 season?

When things got hard, I pulled through and worked harder. Even though I didn’t get the ball much during the 2023 season, I still did as much as I could to help out my team, including getting on the scout team to run the ball as hard as possible to give the defense a look, which led to our defense being one of the best in the state.

What is the strongest part of your game?

Inside Run. I’m a hard runner, so being at 215 and running a 4.6 with very good vision and balance, I’m very hard to bring down in those trenches. Also, another strong part of my game is that I can play anywhere on the field. I’m a very good route runner, so I will be at WR at plays, so you have to shut me down at multiple positions.

If you have gone to any camps, would you share with the readers some of them, along with how they have helped improve your game?

I’ve been to Toledo and Ohio State. I learned a lot from just being at the camp and being coached by the top coaches who have been coaching players that are in the NFL right now, so it’s always an honor learning from them and adding it to my game to be the best I can be. You don’t always have to go to the camp to get an offer; you always go to get better and learn from the coaches and drills y’all do at the camps, which you can work on at home.

For a running back, what type of weather is the worst to play in?

For me, I really don’t have a problem with the weather, but probably snow is the worst to play in and probably the easiest way to get a frostbite, but as I grow as a running back, I will learn how to overcome this factor.

How much time do you spend on your own watching game films?

I spend over 3 hours every day watching films, sometimes 5 hours daily. But it’s to learn the way teams are. I can highlight weak links, such as players that don’t tackle well or just slack on defense, so when I play against the team, I can attack those weak links, which makes it very difficult to stop me, so they have to change up the defense to slow it down, which causes other links to open, which can lead to a touchdown or a wide open receiver down the field.

What separates a great running back from a good one?

A great RB watches films every day for a good 6 hours. A great RB is coach-able and doesn’t slack off while working out. A great RB helps out teammates when struggling. A great RB doesn’t look for excuses for being late or not doing something right. A great RB eats right. A great RB works every day, even when nobody is watching. A great RB is good in the classroom and outside the classroom. A great RB can catch, run routes, have great ball security, doesn’t have fast things, and has very good vision. A good RB works hard but takes breaks at times when the coach isn’t looking. He doesn’t work much outside of practice but still has a work ethic. She says they’re going to be great, but half-fast things. They are amazing on the field, but not in the classroom.

What is the best part of being a running back?

That you can run through some face and have no consequence for it, straight violence.

What is the toughest part of being a running back?

Your body gets banged up very easily, and most RBs don’t last long because of the damage to their bodies. So it’s very important to take care of yourself when playing RB.

What shocked you, if anything, about Boyle County in the playoff game last year?

They were a very well-coached team and very fast. Even though some of them were small, they still wanted it more than ever and would put their bodies on the line just to win.

Would you share with everyone some of the colleges that are recruiting you?

Right now, I’m rated a 3-Star RB with offers from EKU, Toledo, Kent State, and Eastern Michigan.
but some of the schools I’m getting recruited by are Ball State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami (OH), Yale, West Virginia, Western Michigan, SEMO, Purdue, Army, Oklahoma State, NAU, Jackson State, North Carolina, Howard, North Carolina State, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Richmond, Ohio Bobcats, Wisconsin, Stanford, Ohio State, Illinois, Columbia, Cal, Arizona, and more.

Who is your favorite athlete?

Odell Beckham

Where is the best local spot to grab a bite?

Papa John’s

Who are your favorite and least favorite pro football teams?
