2024 Interview with Daymon Busby from Northland H/S

Daymon Busby

Northland High School

Wide receiver

2025

5’8/ 165

What is it like to play for Coach Sayers?

It’s really fun; he knows how to make you better in every shape and form and to make you a better man.

How tough is it to be a high school student athlete and keep your grades up?

It’s really not that tough, and if you really put the time and effort into it, you can make it really easy.

Can you share with the readers all of the sports you are in and how long you have played each sport?

I’ve been playing football for most of my life—13 years. I’ve been playing baseball for two years, and I’ve been running track for three.

Of the sports you are in, which one do you feel you are the best at?

I love football, but baseball is where I can really dominate.

As an athlete, what has been your biggest moment?

Beating your rivals is one of the best feelings you can ever have.

Wide receiver or defensive back—which is harder to prepare for?

I’ll say DB is harder because you’re always a step behind and you’re going to know what your opponent is going to do on defense.

Which game are you looking forward to the most this season?

Honestly, I’m looking for a walnut Ridge since we lost our first game, and they’re talking about a pretty big fight this year, so I’m ready to bring it on.

What was the best part of the 2023 season?

When we were playing Beechcroft, it was like the fourth quarter with one minute left, and we were down by one point. They dropped the ball, and we capitalized on it.

With this being your final high school football season, have you prepared any differently?

I’m looking to set a new record again. Being the Columbus City League champs again for the third time will be amazing and a new record.

What are your goals for the 2024 season?

My goal is obviously to win every game and hope to receive my first offer from any school.

What is the toughest part of being a Northland Viking?

The toughest part about being a worthy opponent is that it is really hated by many schools, which I don’t understand why.

What is your game-day routine?

My game routine focus is mostly on stretching and at least getting 100 catches in, then working on the ladder, then game time.

What is your favorite class or subject?

My favorite subject is English. I love it. I think it’s the easiest class, really, but I just love the subject.

What scares you?

Failing and this is just not a sports thing; it is just all around on assignment filling in sports filling is not a thing for me.

What is the one food you cannot eat?

Broccoli. Broccoli just has such a weird texture. It feels unreal.
