2024 Interview with Xander Duarte from Westland High School

Positions played: middle linebacker and defensive end

Height and weight: 5'11, 220 

How long have you played football, along with the reasons you continue to play?

I have played football for 7 years. My reasons are family, especially my mom; she had to raise my brother, my sister, and me alone, and that's where I would say I get my work ethic from. Also, I love the sport and all the work that comes along with it.

What will you miss the most from the 2024 class? 

I would have to say the seniors and getting the chance to play ball with them.

What are your personal goals for the 2024 season?

My goals for the 2024 season are to become a better leader for the team and also to be able to show the work I have been putting in all offseason.

What game are you most excited about this season? Explain

I would have to say Central Crossing. As a school, I don't think we have ever won against them, and I know we have the ability to beat them.

Who is the best player that you have faced in a game, and what team did he play for? 

I would have to say Diore Hubbard, the running back from Gahanna Lincoln.

What is the toughest part of a Wesltland Cougars practice?

For me personally, I think it's when we have metal toughness days. I love them, though.

What is the worst type of weather for you to play in? 

I would have to say the rain. I wasn't prepared to slip everywhere.

What is the strongest part of your game?

Being able to find a gap and making a play 
 

What have you done during the off-season to make you a better player? 

I have worked on strength, speed, agility, and being able to avoid or shed blocks.

Where should the state finals be held? 
 
I personally would like it to be at Ohio State Stadium.

What will it take for Westland to have a winning season in 2024?

For more of the guys to buy into the process. 

What is your game-day routine? 
 
Getting tapped up and then mentality locking in by listening to my music as I stretch and walk through my hand placement and my steps

One of the best places in Ohio to take part in a D-3 college football game is Dension University in Granville, Ohio. Have you ever been to one of their games? 

No, I have not.

Who are your role models?

My brother and mom look up to their work ethic.

What toppings go on your burger? 

I don't eat burgers. I try to avoid fast food.
