Coldwater rolls over Kirtland 31-7 for another state title.

Canton, Ohio—With a total of 3,472 people in Tom Benson Stadium, powerhouses Coldwater and Kirtland did battle for the Division 6 state title. I believe most were looking for a very competitive game with a low score due to the weather and two strong defenses. It turns out the game was anything but competitive, with Coldwater winning by 24 and never really being threatened by a really good Hornets team. The Cavaliers would hold Kirtland to 253 yards. The Hornets defense gave up just 295 yards but still fell by 24 points.

Coldwater steady QB Baylen Blockberger completed 8 of 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns, with Mason Welsch catching both touchdown passes. Miles Potkotte scored a rushing touchdown to go with his 127 yards rushing. He would carry the rock 23 times. Welsch caught just three balls for 18 yards. Leading the Cavs' defense with 12 tackles was Welsch. Cody Depweg added 11 tackles. Will Barry led the sack stat with one.

For Kirtland, the road was tough all game long. Leading the offense with 81 yards rushing was quarterback Jake LaVerde; he also had the only touchdown. LaVerde completed 4-11 passes for 44 yards. His top receiver was Ryan Caimi with 3 catches and 34 yards. Casey Carkhuff had 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks, leading the defense. Jack Lessick totaled 10 tackles.

Noah Welsch recovered a fumble in the end zone for the other Coldwater touchdown; he added two tackles to complete his day. Bryce Couchot added a 25-yard field goal to round out the scoring for the winners.
