Speed kills in Valley Christian 34-20 win over Lisbon

Youngstown, Ohio- Yesterday I was back at Liberty High School, this time to watch Valley Christian host Lisbon David Anderson. This would be my first time seeing Lisbon.

Valley Christian was quick to showcase one of the best backs that I have watched play this season, Ja'Sean A. Lindsey, and he easily picked up 8 yards to get things rolling. He would follow that up with a 13-yard burst, where he showed not only does he have speed, he possesses some power too. The 7-play, 53-yard drive concluded on a Deion Miller to Ahmire Dixon 10-yard touchdown pass. The conversion kick was blocked by 6-5, 240-pound Luke Craft to keep this a 6-0 game with 8:32 left in the quarter.

Ashton Hinchliffe is a powerfully built back for Lisbon who can play tailback or fullback. He would use power to pick up 17 yards to get things going for his team. A promising drive would fall flat when #44 Colt Tullis mishandled the rock and making him pay for it with a fumble recovery was the Eagles defense, who was awarded the ball when the pile cleared.

Lindsey made the fumble recovery even larger when he blasted off like a rocket for an 84-yard touchdown. The PAT was true off of the foot of William Capeles to make this a 13-0 game, with 5:54 showing on the clock.

The D.L. Burnworth hit of the day came from Jerrell Miles, who crushed Tullis. Tullis is 205, while Miles checks in at 145 pounds. Hinchliffe would plow his way to a 26-yard run where he showed a Barry Sanders-type spin move to avoid a tackler. A sack on Grant Minor by Jymier Burrage and Jeffrey Lampkin helps force a punt. Minor seldom had a chance to do anything with his offensive line being owned by the Eagles D-line all game long.

The Blue Devils got a huge break on the unt when Dixon mishandled the catch and falling on it was Wyatt Newbold, with:09 seconds left in the quarter.

A 72-yard pass from Miller to a wide-opened Jerrell Miles made this a 20-0 game with 7:50 left in the half. Miller throws a nice deep ball, and his receivers all seem to have had a stutter on the whole Blue Devils defense.

Minor was able to show how well he can sling the rock when he has time connected with Newbold for a 29-yard touchdown. After Ben Weber connected on the PAT, we had a 20-7 game.

The half ended on a bright note for the Blue Devils when Wyatt Yost and #66 (NOT ON EITHER ROSTER) sacked Miller for a loss of 15 yards.

With 6:53 left in the third, Minor found Kraft for a 16-yard score to make this a 20-14 game. Kraft could have had 10 or 15 catches if he had his number called more. The 6-5, 240-pounder was or could have been a Nightmare on Elm Street type of problem for the Eagles.

Lindsey used three runs to total 72 yards, with a long of 57, including a 1-yard touchdown, to make this a 28-14 game.

Hinchcliffe would make this a 28-20 game with his 2-yard touchdown run to set up the fourth and final stanza.

The final score of the night came on a Miller to Asher Wiliamson 20-yard touchdown pass, making this a 34-20 game. The Blue Devils converted to fourth and four tries, with Hinchcliffe six yards on each attempt. The final nail in the coffin came when Minor was in a heavy rush and threw a prayer up for grab that was intercepted by London Cooper.
