2024 Interview with Cyrus Kinchen from Northern Lehigh High School

Cyrus Kinchen

Northern Lehigh High School

Offensive tackle, offensive guard, and defensive tackle

2025

6’3, and 295

What were the high and low points of the 2023 season?

The highest point was being able to play a full year without any injuries; the worst was never being a team, and we had gone 3-7 after two amazing previous seasons.

Who or what got you started playing football, and how long have you played?

Definitely my dad, and I just felt like I had something to prove to myself and others. I’ve now played for 5 years, coming up on 6 years.

Who do you feel is the strongest part of your game?

My strength and how I am able to drive people off the line.

Which part of your game are you working to improve to become a better player?

Speed

My speed at all times: I would rather be big and fast than big and slow.

Offensive tackle or defensive tackle, which one is tougher to prepare for?

Definitely offensive tackle because you have to be ready to pick up a linebacker at any moment; you have to read and react to certain situations; while defensive tackle, I have to remember five blitzes for me to be able to get through the offensive line.

Offensive tackle or defensive tackle—which one do you feel you are better at?

Offensive tackle

Who is the toughest teammate to square up against in practice?

It’s not many teammates that I struggle against, but the toughest would be our current starting D-end, Bill Slattery; he’s quick and strong.

Who is the best player you have faced in a game, along with the team he played for?

I wouldn’t be able to tell you honestly; I’m not the greatest with names.

What is the toughest part of practice?

The conditioning, I’m not much a runner.

Which part of practice is your favorite?

When we run goal line drills or offensive line individuals,.

Coming off a tough 3-7 season, what does the 2024 team have to change to turn things around?

We have to be a team; if we aren’t a team, nothing will work out again. We have a lot coming back, and others are filing roles for the seniors that have left. We should have a better year if we put our heads down and work.

Could you share with everyone some of the schools that you are hearing from?

Moravian, Juniata, and Misericordia

After the season is over, will you play in any of the all-star games, if you are invited to?

Absolutely

Where should the state finals be held?

Hershey field

Grass or turf? Explain

Grass is a lot easier to plant and go into than turf, plus there are some nice grass fields.

What is your favorite type of music?

Probably rap and rock

What is your go-to snack?

A peach or fruit snack.

What scares you?

I never want to fail.
