SWOFC 29 MVFCA 20

(Game 4 this year for me: 3 high school games, 1 semi-pro game)

Last night, I made my way to Centerville Elks Football Stadium for my third visit there to take in the SWOFCA vs. MVFCA ALL-STAR GAME. Before getting into the game, I have to thank Coach Roger Horton for inviting me to cover this game and to Qa'id Wilson for speaking to me after the game and using his picture as the feature picture for this article. Also, to the man who was on the PA, thank you for calling out the players names and numbers and how many yards the play went for.

Not even one minute into the game, Jamison Watts (National Trail) got to Armond Seals (Taft) for a loss of two yards. Seals would be taken down for a loss of two when Brayden Koeller (Twin Valley South) with 10:30 left in the quarter.

After forcing a punt, the MVFCA All-Stars would get a 53-yard catch from Josh Carter (Franklin) on a nice throw from JT Smith (Fairborn). The drive came to a close when Smith followed the big hogs into the end zone for the two-yard score. Jake Winters (Cedarville) was true on the point after the kick to make this a 7-0 score with 9:14 left on the clock.

The SWOFCA All-Stars Quinten Wagers (Lebanon) would get a sack on Luke Seibert (Butler), and hard-nose running back Eugene Haney (Syamore) would break two tackles on his way to a twenty-yard pick-up.

In the second quarter, J.J. Miller (Willamsburg) connected with Evan Hamilton for thirteen yards. Pierce Ayers made a diving catch for a 21-yard score, making this a 7-6 game with 7:10 left in the half, as the two-point pass fell incomplete.

A bad snap aided in Ayers getting to Seibert for a short loss at the 4:10 mark of the quarter. Seibert shook off the short loss when he hit Ray Vonn Harris (Stebbins) for the twenty-yard touchdown, making this a 14-6 game. Harris, at times in this one, looked like a man playing against boys. It would not take long for the SWOFCA team to respond, with Miller finding Donte Ferrell (Woodward) for a 75-yard touchdown. After David Rumpler (Edgewood) hit the point after the kick, we had a 14-13 game with 2:44 left in the half. Ayers and Nate Ostendorf (Badin) would get to Smith for a six-yard loss with 1:24 left. The half came to a close with Rumpler hitting a 35-yard field goal to give the SWOFCA All-Stars a 16-14 lead. Runpler would hit a 50-yarder during warm-ups.

The second half got started with a 25-yard run by Chris Fogan (Bellefontaine). Siebert would hit Logan Ullery for a sixteen-yard gain, then he was sacked for a ten-yard loss by Markeis Andrew (Northwest). He shook off the sack by hitting Harris for a forty-yard score with 8:32 left in the third to make this a 20-16 game. The score came on a fourth-and-nineteenth play.

Seals would show everyone he too could throw the rock when he found Elias Wheeler (Oak Hills) for fifty-eight yards. Thanks to a tackle for loss by Haiden Manns (Bellefontaine) on Seals and a sack on Seals by Darian Dixon (Shawnee), the drive ended with zero points being scored. On fourth and one deep inside their territory, the MVFCA All-Stars decided to go for it, but the SWOFCA team was more than ready, with Ostendorf stopping Evan Liette (Tippecanoe) well short of the line needed to move the chains.

The fourth quarter brought us back-to-back picks. First, Lucas Merry (Tippecanoe) did the honors for the MVFCA All-Stars and for the SWOFCA All-Stars. T.J. Blackburn (Little Miami) was the man on the spot. Miller would hit Ferrell for fifty-eight yards, and then he threw a 12-yard touchdown to Ayers to make this a 23-20 game, as the point after the kick was true. The final 4:19 seconds of the game would bring a sack and a fumble recovery from Quinten Wagers (Lebanon). Then a Seals forty-four-yard pass to Ferrell. The biggest play in that span was a Seals touchdown pass to Wheeler, making this a 29-20 final.
