Muskingum Valley toys with Licking County in all-star game 40-26

On Friday, I made the drive from Columbus, Ohio, to New Lexington to catch the Licking County vs. Muskingum Valley All-Star game played at Jim Rockwell Stadium.

Licking County would try a fake punt deep in their own territory, but Muskingum was prepared for it with Caneron Barnhouse (John Glenn) easy-planting Jacob Wheeler (Licking Valley) into the turf well short of the first down marker.

Riley Woodie (Coshocton) caped off the 6-play 29-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run to make this a 6-0 game, with 8:51 showing on the first quarter clock.

Later in the quarter, Ashton Sensibaugh (Tri-Valley) would be tackled on his own 12-yard line when he tried to make something out of nothing, when the long snapper snap was bad on a punt try.

Brayden Bayles (Heath) would scramble to his right, avoiding a few would-be tacklers to waltz into the end zone, tying this one up at six. Noah Musick Granville gave Licking County the 7-6 lead when his point-after-kick was true.

Woodie would pick up 20 yards on a nice run late in the quarter as he continued to show he had come to play. The quarter ended with the score remaining 7-6.

Justin Munyan (Sheridan) and Seth Henning (Philo) got to Lickin County quarterback Bayles for an 8-yard loss. The Licking County defense came up big a short time later when D'Angelo Goodrich (Licking Heights) made a nice interception.

Woodie made this a 12-7 game with his 2-yard score with 6:08 left in the half. The touchdown came after Licking Conty failed on another fake punt.

With 3:21 left in the half, Logan Niceswanger (Morgan) threw a 24-yard TD pass to Ashton Sensibaugh with 3:21 left in the half. Antwone Johns (Coshocton) was true to his point after trying to put Muskingum up 19-7.

Licking County would cap off an 11-play 75-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Bayles to Jacob Wheeler (Licking Valley). After Musick hit the point after try, the teams would go into the locker rooms, with Muskingum Valley leading 19-14.

Woodie got the third quarter going with a 65-yard score to put Muskingum up 26-14.

Niceswanger would find Drake Durst (Tri-Valley) for a gain of twenty-four. Durst was wide open on the play, making the catch easy. The drive would end without any more damage being done to the Licking County defense. Later in the quarter, Sheridan (Sheridan) was crushed by Drew Bingham (Northridge) for a loss of four. The final score of the quarter came on a Kole Searl (Morgan) 21-yard catch on another throw by Niceswanger, making this a 32-14 game with 1:02 left on the clock.

The final frame would bring a Justin Giffin (Utica) 8-yard touchdown for Licking County, making this a 32-20 game with 10:05 left. Muskingum Valley would score on a Niceswanger 24-yard TD pass to Bryson Ruff (Sheridan) with 3:06 left and a two-point run by Johns to make this a 40-20 score. Licking County ended the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass by Bayles to Wheeler, giving us the final score of 40-26.
