2024 Interview with new Rock Hill Head Coach Tony Love

Name: Tony Love

School Rock Hill

Position: Head Football Coach

College Morehead State

Could you list the coaching jobs you have had, from your first job to your current job?

1993 Asst. at Greenup County High School, Kentucky.
1994-2002 Asst. @ Ashland KY
2003-2012 Defensive Coordinator, Ashland, KY
2013-2021 Head Coach Ashland, KY
2024: Present Head Coach, Rock Hill, OH

What was the first thing you said to the team?

We discussed that “in order to get to the next level,
Here, there needed to be the next level of commitment. The weight room will be the bedrock of
achieving that goal,” and how important it is to make an investment to be there every time we
open it.

Will you have an open competition as to who is starting, or will you stay with the returning starters?

With a new system for everyone to learn, my expectation is that there will be competition in all positions.

What offense and defense will you run?

Our offense will be based on gap scheme principles, but
adjusted to the skillset. From a defensive standpoint, we will base out of a four-man front.

What will a typical practice look like for you as the head coach?

Our practices will be fast-paced and, hopefully, very energetic.

What will you try to do to get the numbers up for the football team?

Communicate with players and parents about our vision of where we want this to be in the coming years, win, and play as many
players as we can throughout the game.

What are your thoughts about student-athletes playing more than one sport?

I support kids playing multiple sports; I believe it helps to make a kid a more rounded player.

What will you look for when it comes to scheduling non-league games?

I like to play good competition; I think it only helps when it comes to the playoffs.

What are your thoughts on girls playing football?

If someone can help this team and will work hard, they are welcome to play.

As the head coach, what will you do to aid your players in getting the chance to play college football?

First, find out who truly wants to play college football. I’ve always tried to convey how difficult it is to play football at the next level. The second part of the conversation is about the reality of what level is best for their ability. And then we will put together a list of schools to reach out to.

What will you do to see that your players are nominated to play in the all-star games at the end of the season?

First and foremost, we need to win, challenge the kids in the off-season to get bigger, faster and stronger. We’ll spend a lot of time building their football IQ and with statistical information to be able to support the nominations for these awards.

Where should the state finals be held?

I wouldn’t mind seeing it played in Columbus.

What is your favorite meal? I’m not picky when it comes to food.

Simple country cooking is great for me.

What was the last book you read, along with the author?

The Bible

Who are your favorite and least favorite pro football teams?

Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Browns (it’s a long story)
