My Saturday night game took me to Firefox High School for the first time to watch West Union vs. Firefox. The smallish but very into crowd was treated to a hard-hitting game that turned out to be very one-sided. Both teams gave it everything they had even when the outcome was known to all. The Phoenix got a 29-yard run from Zayden Imani, a 6-0, 170-pound senior, to set up the game's first score, and that came on a Brayden O'Neill pass to Nazir Smith from 20 yards out. Koben Bowen, another senior, ran the two-point conversion to make this an 8-0 game, with a little over 11:00 left in the opening quarter. Freshman quarterback Noah Cole would find Gabe Parker for 10 yards for the Dragons to get things started for the offense. A bad snap led to Cole getting hit by Caidyn Dunn, forcing a fumble that Koben Bowen recovered, with 9:35 left on the clock. Bowen sprinted a 15-yard run to get the ball rolling for the Phoenix.
