Friday night took me to Hamilton Township High School to catch the Wheelersburg Pirates battle the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes. Both teams came in at a perfect 12-0 on the season. At the 11:16 mark of the opening quarter, Elijah Brown, the Pirates' shifty senior running back, set the tone in this one with a 39-yard run. Caeleb Layton, the big 6-3, 215-pound defensive lineman for the Buckeyes, tossed Brown down for a loss of two, with 11:06 showing on the clock. Braylon Walker tossed the ball to Hunter Bivens, who raced to a gain of 16 yards. Rucker ended the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Gabe Campbell snapped the ball, Bryson Longfellow got the snap down, and the best kicker in Division Five, if not the entire state, Cooper Heimback, nailed the PAT to make this a 7-0 game, with 9:54 left in the quarter.
