Post a small recap of last season with something like a big game you had, something about a certain game, something from a bus ride to or from the game, or something that sticks out from a practice.
Last year, in our game against Wawasee, I was 20/26 passing for 302 yards. 4 passing and 1 rushing touchdown. It was a great confidence booster for the team and me.
In watching some of your Hudl clips, I like the touch you have on your deep throws. Can you explain to the readers how much work goes into making this look as easy as you do?
It’s all repetition. It’s the throwing in the summer when you don’t have practice and the staying after practice to try and perfect it. Timing is everything, and if you can consistently get the timing down, it can be a big play.
Again with the Hudl clips. I really liked the way you keep your eyes downfield while you scramble. How much of this is natural talent, along with how much work you do on this part of your game?
Ever since I was young, I loved to throw on the run, so I would always roll out, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
What is the toughest part of being the quarterback?
I think the ability to go from read to read. It can be easy to make one read on a safety or defender, but coming off that read onto another read can be challenging.
What is the most rewarding part of being the quarterback?
I think the support from the team and having the team trust you to be a leader.
What type of defense do you enjoy going up against the most?
They all have different pros and cons. I would say my favorite is cover 2 because we have a great play that works almost every time against it. I also love man because I trust my guys to beat their defender.
What part of your game do you feel is the strongest?
I’d say my avoiding pressure and getting out of the pocket is a strength, and making something out of nothing and extending plays instead of just giving up on it is something I love.
Which part of your game are you hoping to improve before the season kicks off?
I’m trying to improve my ball speed and to better understand the defense at hand.
Do you think every team should make the playoffs?
In Indiana, every team makes the playoffs, and I like that. We have a lot of bigger teams in our schedule, which makes us better come sectional playoff time. I think that once the playoffs hit, it’s a different ball game. Anything can happen in the playoffs.
What are your personal goals for the season?
Gain more overall yards in both passing and rushing and more total TDs.
What goals are you setting for your team?
Go to state and win.
What has been your biggest moment as an athlete?
Last season, against our rivals Northwood, it came down to the wire with 40 seconds left, and I threw a touchdown to put us down 1. We didn’t pull off the 2-point conversion, but it was a great moment and proved that we were contenders! I also got my first in-game dunk in basketball this year, which felt great!
What has been your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?
Going 3-7 last year. We were young, and I know we are going to do better this year.
What is your favorite class or subject?
Chemistry
Who are your role models?
My dad and brother are my role models. They both were D1 track athletes. Dad (Univ. of Florida - Pole Vault) Brother (Univ. of Memphis - shot, disc, hammer, javelin)
Have you been to a Colts game?
No, not yet, but I would love to go!
